Caring For Your Tile

Among the most durable of flooring surfaces, tile also proves to offer an amazing array of design flooring possibilities.

Ceramic tile is a mixture of clays, sands, glass substances and other materials.  Only natural raw materials are used, mixed with water and fired at high temperatures to create a naturally beautiful product.

Porcelain tile is a type of ceramic made of a very fine mixture of clays and minerals similar to those found in fine china.  This special mixture is what allows the porcelain tile to be fired at temperatures even higher than ceramic tile. The higher temperature results in a very dense tile that better resists moisture.

Protecting your Investments

  • Vacuum or sweep regularly to remove any dirt or grit.

  • Remove spills promptly using a clean, dry terry Micro fiber cloth and clean residual from spill with Mohawk Floor Care Essentials Hard Surface Cleaner and a clean white Micro fiber cloth.

  • Use felt protectors under heavy pieces of furniture and chairs.

  • Use protective mats at all exterior entrances.

  • Cleaners should never contain acids or ammonia. Acids can damage the grout and the glazed surface of the tile, and ammonia can discolor the grout.

  • For removing grease, soap scum and mildew stains from grout joints see your flooring retailer for a professional strength Grout Cleaner.

  • Never use oil soaps or wax to clean your tile floor.

  • Protect your floor when using a dolly for moving furniture or appliances. Never slide or roll heavy furniture or appliances across the floor.

  • If you need to remove sealers or waxes from your tile floor see your flooring retailer for a Tile Sealer & Adhesive remover.

 Recommended Cleaning Products

All house hold cleaners are not the same. Ordinary household cleaners that contain ammonia, acid or bleach are too harsh for use on stone surfaces. They can dull and etch polished stone, break down the sealer and deteriorate and bleach the grout color.  Always use a pH neutral cleaner specifically formulated for stone.  TileLab cleaners are all pH balanced and contain no harmful abrasives or acids and are safe for all stone surfaces.
